Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The Code of Practice explains the duties of schools and colleges to provide reasonable adjustments, auxiliary aids, services and support for children and young people with SEN and disabilities; it provides the basis for our work with all children with SEND at Stowting Church of England Primary School.

As a school, we are committed to ensuring that our school does not “Unlawfully discriminate against pupils because of sex, race, disability, religion or belief and sexual orientation.” According to the Equality Act 2010 a person has a disability if:

(a) He or she has a physical or mental impairment, and

(b) The impairment has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

The Accessibility Plan is listed as a statutory document of the Department for Education’s guidance on statutory policies for schools. Our plan will be reviewed every 3 years or where operational needs dictate and approved by the Governing Body. The review process can be delegated to a committee of the Governing Body, an individual or the Head. At Stowting Church Of England Primary School the Plan will be monitored by the Headteacher and evaluated by the Governing Body.

The Local Offer

The Children and Families Act 2014 requires the Local Authority and schools to publish and keep under review information about services they expect to be available for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) aged 0-25.

The Local Authority refer to this as the ‘Local Offer’. The intention of the Local Offer is to improve choice and transparency for families. It will help parents and young people to understand the range of services and provision in the local area and contribute to a more equal partnership in planning for the needs of children with SEND.
