I am currently Chair of Governors at Stowting Primary School having joined the Board 4 years ago.
I am a School Business Manager at a primary school in Ashford Central, where I started as a Finance Officer 20 years ago. The school has about 420 pupils including a Maintained Nursery. The children come from a wide range of backgrounds and some of them present challenging behaviours.
I have both a Certificate and Diploma in School Business Management as well as Bookkeeping. I have a lot of experience in school management through Leadership and Management of: Finance, Personnel, Premises and Administration. No day is the same and I could be sorting out funding for the year one minute to managing a Health & Safety issue the next. I run the Breakfast Club and manage 15 staff including: Breakfast Club, Midday Supervisors, Premises staff and the Office Team. I am on the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and so have involvement in the strategic decisions of the school. I love the variety the job brings but most of all I want to make a difference to a child’s day and well-being.
Prior to starting at the school I did Bookkeeping for Private individuals, and worked for 7 years at Orpington College and 7 years for the British Council – both in Financial Management.
I value the time I spend up at Stowting Primary and understand there are different challenges that small rural schools face in comparison to a school like the one I work in. I love coming up to the school and being able to listen to the stillness and peacefulness that surrounds the area and fully understand why parents want to send their children to us, and how we all as stakeholders, are committed to keeping the school running as an independent and not run as part of a Federation. The school has a uniqueness founded on parents, children, staff and Governors which is very important to retain.
