Mr Simon Hagger, Vice Chair of Governors

I am the Deputy CEO for Holiday Extras where I have worked for over 20 years - having led many aspects of the business I am now one of a small team of Directors that run our group of x8 travel related companies across Europe.  I set up a new Shortbreaks division for the business over 10 years ago, which now employs almost 200 people in its own right. My core skills are in commercial negotiations, new product/business launches, people management/HR, operations, e-commerce, partnership management and business strategy. I have sat on a number of boards.

I joined Stowting as a Governor over 6 years ago as I wanted to contribute to my daughter’s school (Bethany is now at Folkestone School for Girls, Aimee currently in Year 5) and the overall education and potential of all Stowting children.  I have always felt that we have a true gem of a school but times are hard with budget/funding challenges so pragmatic and commercial solutions are needed. I've found the role both time consuming but satisfying in equal measure but know we make a difference as a committed team of Governors/Volunteers!  For me, in addition to our normal Governor meetings much of 2017/18 was dedicated to finding our new Head teacher where I played a key role on the selection panel, including working with parents and teachers to involve them in the process. I was delighted we eventually found such a great fit in Mrs. Uden.

This year I expect to play a more active role on our Buildings and Finance committee making our budgets go as far as possible, and to be specifically looking at topics regarding the Safeguarding of our children in and around the school - including staying safe online (which needs help from all parents). I will also be ensuring we are getting the maximum impact and benefit from PE funding, not just physical fitness but education around healthy eating (yes we are looking at school dinners!), and general emotional/mental wellbeing of the children.
