Maths: Missing number problem solving!
This is the same task as we completed in class on Tuesday but of course you have different numbers to work with! You need to identify the missing number in the calculation, remember to use your number square which you should have inside your homework resource pack.
Examples: (?) + 34 = 42
25 + (?) = 50

Maths: Puzzle solving!
This was another tricky task this week, remember to take time to think carefully about each step of the problem solving! DONT PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to look at the grids in your learning journals and solve the puzzle by finding out how much each shape is worth (value) and also by adding up each column to find the total amount.

Maths: You need to identify the shaded fraction for each rectangle, cut out the cards and match each of the equivalent fractions.
Equivalent fractions are fractions that look different but show exactly the same amount. We found this task really TRICKY, remember to keep checking your fraction wall!
Friday 13th January 2017 - Year 2 homework
Literacy: Using Imperative Verbs.
This week in our instruction work we have been looking at the importance of imperative verbs. Imperative verbs are also known as 'bossy verbs' because they tell people what to do! (e.g. shut the door or turn on the kettle.
Children need to choose the correct imperative verbs to go with each instruction in a recipe to make a cheese omelette. Once this has been done they need to write the instructions in the correct order to complete the recipe.
Friday 6th January 2017 - Year 2 homework
As part of our instruction work for literacy, your task this weekend is to follow the set of instructions in your learning journal to make some delicious fairy cakes. Follow each of the steps carefully and I'm sure these little cakes will taste magical!
Please include some photographs of you baking at home!

Please continue to work on your lines for our production of Out Of This World.
Most of you have now learnt your lines off by heart so the next step is to work on voice projection (making sure you speak loudly and clearly!) When working on your lines ask an adult to reads the line that come before yours so that you get used to knowing when to come in and speak!

We spent Monday and Tuesday afternoon learning about the Hindu celebration Diwali.
This week’s homework task is to design your own version of a Rangoli pattern. You need to colour in the shapes, cut out them out, arrange them into a design and finally stick them onto the pattern template. I am looking forward to seeing the finished pattern!

Your task is to create a safari scene inside a shoebox, you can find the instructions and the animal cut outs in your learning journal. I have also included the file down below in case you need to re-print any of the animals.

Pretend you are visiting Kenya on holiday!!!
For your homework you are going to plan an exciting journey around Kenya. Using the map in your learning journal map out your travel route. You will need to visit 5 different places (such as cities, national parks, rivers, lakes, mountains) and give me reasons to explain why you would like to stop at each particular place.
Friday 23rd September 2016 - Year 2 homework
Numeracy: We have completed some work based around estimating an amount. For homework this week I would like you to complete the pasta challenge!
1. Take a big handful of dried pasta.
2. Estimate how many pieces there are.
3. Count the pieces to find the actual amount (remember grouping the pieces speeds this part up!).
4. Use you number square to work out the difference between your estimation and the actual total.
Friday 16th September 2016 - Year 2 homework
Numeracy: This week we have completed some work based on place value and partitioning.
Task 1 (In learning journals): To order a set of given numbers into the correct order from smallest to largest. Please remember to partition numbers into hundreds, tens and units to help with your problem solving.
Task 2: Practice working on how to use a number square when adding and subtracting basic numbers, this is a skill you learnt in Year 1 but found extremely tricky this week!
Move right 1 square = +1
Move left 1 square = -1
Move down 1 square = +10
Move up 1 square = -10

Literacy: This week we have been working on the spelling of the Year 2 common exception words (you will find a copy of the complete list in your child's homework pack). Could you please continue to work on these over the weekend, you will find a photocopy of your child's work from class to highlight the work to work on.
