As a Church of England school we are truly fortunate to have our own church of St.Mary the Virgin, Stowting,  next door to the school premises.

Every Tuesday we have a Family Prayer Service before school from 8.30-8.50am.  Do join us!

School church services are held during the year to celebrate Harvest, Christmas and Easter.

Stowting school also maintains close links with Canterbury Cathedral.   We are Friends of the Cathedral ; we help to raise money for the Restoration fund through concerts performed by the school choir with invited choirs from other schools.  The latest concert was in January 2014.  The successful event took place in the 'Quire' section of the Cathedral.  It was a wonderful experience for our pupils, for whom performing in the 'Quire' was a great achievement.  We have received visits from both the Bishop of Dover and the previous Archbishop of Canterbury.

Here are some examples of how we strive to practice our Christian Values within our everyday actions, rather than simply quoting them:

Congratulations to the winners of our Easter Art competition, organised to raise funds for Battersea Dog & Cats Home by Imogen. (Mr Hygate is pretending to be Lydia, she was joint winner for year 5 & unable to collect her award as she was sadly visiting the opticians) The winners received personal bags of sweets & everyone who entered (26 children this year!) received 3 housepoints. As a recognition of her endeavours, Imogen was awarded 10 housepoints for her team - Butterflies. The artworks will be displayed until Easter in school.

First Sunday of Lent

Today’sReadings:
http://www.usccb.org/bible/readings/030517.cfm

“One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” (Mt 4:4b)

As the first week of Lent begins, ask God to renew and increase your faith because: “It’s a pity to see how frequently many Christians have it on their lips and yet how sparingly they put it into their actions. You would think it a virtue to be preached only, and not one to be practiced” (The Way, no. 579).

Picture 1

On Ash Wednesday, years 3,4,5 & 6 studied the scripture, meaning & purpose of Lent. We also related it to keeping our bodies healthy, as the Bible shows us that we were made in God's image & also our body is a Temple, which we should respect.

Would you like to 'solve' a problem that has been puzzling scholars for nearly 2000 years? Have a look at this - how can 1 = 3? It certainly doesn't in Mathematics... Can it in R.E. ? Why not have a go? Hint: there is no 'correct' answer. This is a true mystery of faith - Now you know how the Disciples felt!

Some photos from our very successful visit today from the Rt Rev Trevor Willmott, his grace, the Bishop of Dover. After taking our collective worship in the church, he presented the prizes to the winners of our recent illustrated Christian Values competition, then enjoyed a tea party with them. Bishop Trevor then visited each of the classes & engaged with the children. On leaving, he complimented our staff & children on what he considered to be a wonderful, friendly school.

Lovely to welcome Rev. Ian & Margaret back for morning prayers in the church. The theme today was Pentecost. It was a delight to see such a large number of children and parents wanting to join Ian and Margaret.

We are now in the season of Pentecost - what do these images mean to you? Is there something which is common in most of the pictures?
